The Nano Speedy is born in 2015. Louis Vuitton launches the “Nano” collection, which features seven of its most iconic models.
Alongside the Speedy bag, the Maison also offers the Alma, the Noé, the Lockit, the W, the Pallas and the Turenne in a smaller size. Although this is not a historic size for the Speedy, unlike the 25, 30, 35 and 40 models, it plays an important role in the evolution of the range.
2. The Speedy in miniature: from a practical bag to a fashion accessory
The Nano Speedy retains all the features of the original Speedy in miniature. It has the same supple, rounded silhouette, two top handles complemented by an adjustable and removable shoulder strap, a zip closure and a padlock. The collection goes further than simply reproducing the shape; it also uses the same materials and colorways as the classic Speedy. This collection marks a real departure from the Maison Louis Vuitton's core focus on travel bags. The bag's functional dimension is called into question, almost disappearing in favor of a more ostentatious spirit. The Louis Vuitton bag is now considered an accessory, almost like a piece of jewelry, worn primarily for its beauty. With the Nano, the Speedy takes on a new status. After being a travel bag, a city handbag, and a collector's item, it now claims to be a full-fledged fashion accessory.
3. A mini size that holds the essentials
Although aesthetics are more important than functionality, it is not unusable. Despite its dimensions of 16 × 10 × 7.5 cm, it can still hold a few essentials:
- A phone up to 6.7 inches
- A cardholder
- Keys
- Earphones
- Lipstick
It can be carried by hand or over the shoulder to keep your hands free. This makes it a natural choice for a stroll through town, a drink with friends, a restaurant date, or an evening out. Its small size gives you the opportunity to pair it with many styles: chic, casual, or urban. For travel, it can easily be paired with a larger bag.
The Nano Speedy at the heart of the micro-bag trend
The Nano Speedy is part of the micro-bag trend that emerged in the 2010s. Chanel and Céline introduced the Mini Classic Flap and the Nano Luggage, respectively, between 2010 and 2011. Louis Vuitton, Fendi, which also launched the Micro-Peekaboo in 2015, followed suit by miniaturizing its flagship models. The mini-bag trend truly exploded with the Jacquemus Chiquito, released in 2017, and the brand took it to the extreme with the Petit Chiquito in 2019, which measures less than 10 cm. The craze for small bags returned in full force in the 2020s, and Dior, which had already released the Lady Dior Micro in 2015, launched micro versions of its iconic Saddle, Lady Dior, 30 Montaigne and Caro.
